Neighborhood Development

Overview

Community Action's overall goal is to increase the standard of living for neighborhood residents through rehabilitation of existing housing, promotion of home ownership and working in cooperation with community organizations to increase economic development activities.

In the City of Jackson, Community Action Agency is involved in the Partnership Park Neighborhood. We are working closely with various partners to revitalize the area, increase housing development and rehabilitation, support community involvement and provide a variety of services and training to area residents.

CAA has been identified as the subrecipient for Jackson County’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program 3 funding of $1.16 million, which will be utilized to purchase, rehabilitate and sell foreclosed homes.  The Jackson County Board of Commissioners identified Leoni Township as the target neighborhood of greatest need.  CAA has completed the Action Plan for the NSP3 program and will be awaiting HUDs approval to move forward with the project.  It is anticipated that work will begin in Leoni Township in July of 2011.

In Lenawee County, CAA has received a Neighborhood Stabilization Program grant through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority targeted to the City of Hudson.  CAA has acquired and is rehabilitating 207 Tiffin Street, a 3 bedroom single family home which will be sold to a family at or below 120% area median income.
