Volunteer Opportunity with CAA's VITA Program

It was only possible through the combined efforts of the 108 volunteers who provided FREE tax assistance and preparation to households with income up to $54,000.

VITA volunteers assisted households in Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties returning millions of dollars through returns and credits. Most of these refunds and credits are spent locally. By volunteering, you are then helping to positively and directly impact the local economy as well as the financial stability of your neighbors.

Volunteers are needed annually to become IRS-certified preparers. VITA is an IRS-sponsored program to assist low-income, disabled, and elderly, and for those whom English is a second language file their income taxes. Volunteers receive FREE IRS training and instruction in January. Certification is required and is achieved by passing IRS-provided tests for VITA tax preparer certification.

Volunteer opportunities are available for day, evening, and some weekend times as well, making volunteering flexible for many schedules.

Volunteers are not only needed as preparers, but as greeters, to schedule appointments, answer phones, and perform office tasks.
