Jackson, Michigan) – For families struggling to make ends meet, the holidays can be an added source of stress and anxiety. When you are faced with feeding your family, paying for a prescription or putting toys under the tree, the choice is taken away. Community Action Agency's staff working on the front lines in the War on Poverty see this daily.

CAA's Adopt-a-Family program tries to ensure that the holiday season is a bit brighter. Staff select individual families within the programs CAA offers that are working with towards self-sufficiency. CAA then partners with community members to adopt the individuals and families for the holidays. Partners typically provide at least one new toy and one new outfit for each child in the family, as well as a special holiday meal. Many partners provide much more as they are able. Past partners share that they have suggest that it costs approximately $50-$75 per person. We do no set any strict giving guidelines to donors.
This year the need for partners to adopt families has been greater. We have over 46 families still waiting. The families awaiting adoption are from Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties. We are reaching out to the community to help make a difference in a neighbor's life by directly adopting a family who you will have the opportunity to meet personally. Partners can also remain anonymous. We still have several opportunities for Thanksgiving as well.

For those interested, yet unable to adopt who families; we also welcome gas/ grocery/ and gift cards to Polly's Country Market, Hillsdale Market House, Kroger, Meijer, Target, and Walmart. This along with donations help provide for the families that are not adopted.
